One of my favourite quotes, from Tim Healey (ed.) “Strange but True: The World’s Weirdest Newspaper Stories”, Octopus Books, London, 1984, p.93.

I have been trying to trace the origin of the above story, but so far without success. In the meantime, may I quote my own letter to the BBC when they gave an hour of air time to this fraud, without challenging him:

A one-hour homage to Uri Geller? With no sceptical comment, and no reference to the number of times that this fake has been exposed on television and elsewhere? Shame, BBC, for so tarnishing your image, and shame especially to the scientifically illiterate programmer responsible for this travesty.
