My good friend and cooleague (cool colleague) Anders Sandberg has calculated what would happen if the world suddenly turned into blueberries. I offer it as an example of how scientists think; one that might be used to help schoolchildren, and even beginning university students, catch on in a way that traditional physics problems do not. Briefly, gravitational compression would collapse the Earth and rapidly heat the blueberries, resulting in a world covered in blueberry jam and spouting blue geysers into a steamy atmosphere. It sure beats some other forecasts for our future!
