My books are aimed to help people see and understand the world through a scientist’s eyes, with a good leavening of humour, anecdote and the personal stories.
My approach is to show how we can use the way that scientists think to help us cope with the problems of everyday life, from dunking biscuits to forecasting and ameliorating personal and social catastrophes.
I would like to see science as a part of our wider culture, on a par with religion, literature, philosophy and art as an aid to seeing and understanding the world. You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy a picture, or a writer to appreciate a good book. You don’t have to be a scientist to enjoy and appreciate the picture that science gives of the world, either.
